Oman Hiking Itinerary
On Day 1, arrive in Muscat and settle into your hotel. If time allows, take an optional introductory hike from Riyam to Muttrah, where the landscape offers a serene escape into Oman’s timeless heritage. In the evening, join your group for a welcome dinner at Ramissa Restaurant, setting the tone for the journey ahead.
The adventure deepens on Day 2 as you cruise along Muscat’s coastline in the morning, watching dolphins dance along the waves and snorkeling in vibrant coral reefs. The day continues with a thrilling 4WD drive through the iconic Wadi Bani Auf, leading you to the remote village of Bilad Sayt. This small mountain village, with its traditional houses and terraced fields, offers a glimpse into Omani culture and hospitality.
On Day 3, set out early for a challenging trek from Bilad Sayt to Jebel Shams along the W8 trail. This rigorous hike ascends through rugged landscapes, rewarding you with panoramic mountain views. By evening, you’ll arrive at Sama Heights Resort, nestled at the foot of Jebel Shams, where you’ll rest up for the next day’s summit attempt.
Day 4 brings you to Oman’s very own Grand Canyon with a rim walk that scales the heights of Jebel Shams. This dramatic trail offers breathtaking views and is considered one of the most stunning hikes in the country. After reaching the summit, relax and take in the grandeur of the mountain scenery before returning to Sama Heights Resort.
On Day 5, immerse yourself in history with a morning visit to Misfat Al Abriyeen, a centuries-old abandoned village featuring ancient stone buildings, lush gardens, and intricate irrigation channels. As we climb further to the goat keepers houses, we will stop for coffee with the locals and get a valuable insight into their daily lives. The day continues with a drive to Nizwa, where you’ll check into the Nizwa Heritage Inn and unwind in this historic town known for its fort and bustling souq.
Experience the serene beauty of Wadi Bani Khalid on Day 6, where crystal-clear pools await for a refreshing dip amidst the rocky landscape. Later, journey to Wahiba Sands, a vast desert expanse of golden dunes. Spend the night at Desert Rose Camp, where you’ll witness an unforgettable sunset over the dunes and enjoy an evening under the stars.
Day 7 begins with a hike into the heart of Wadi Shab, a canyon oasis where you’ll trek along palm-lined paths, navigate rocky trails, and swim through natural pools to discover hidden caves and waterfalls. The day ends with a visit to the Bimah Sinkhole, a dramatic limestone crater with turquoise waters. Back in Muscat, celebrate your journey with a farewell dinner at Rozana Restaurant.
On Day 8, conclude your adventure with breakfast at the hotel before transferring to Muscat International Airport for your departure. Reflect on the rich experiences and unforgettable landscapes that made this journey truly extraordinary.
