As you may have noticed, I travel fairly extensively for my job and take a fair few plane rides as a result. Planes are known to read havoc on your skin with their constantly circulating air conditioning and dehydrating atmosphere. As a result, I have developed a quick and simple travel beauty routine which I use every time I fly. It never fails to leave my skin feeling soft and plump when I land. Give it a go!
- Before I leave to the airport I apple a thick body moisturiser all over, I use The Body Shop body yoghurts.
- I always board my flight with no makeup on. Ain’t no body got time for that, it is just going to sit on your skin and make you feel heavy, accentuating the drying effects of the plane. Take it off!
- I also don’t wear my contact lenses as they dry out in the air, instead I wear my glasses. I also carry eye drops with me which I use a couple of times during the flight (usually every 4/5 hours or so depending on how my eyes feel).
- As soon as I board the flight I use a flannel to clean my face and get off any dirt and residue.
- Then I apply a nourishing mask, usually the Origins Drink Up intensive overnight mask. I use a nice thick layer and let it sink into my skin. Don’t worry it’s clear so no one will know you have it on!
- I also take this time to apply The Body Shop hemp hand cream and Keihls nourishing lip balm. I also add a fresh layer of deodorant because no one wants to be a smelly passenger.
- I usually tie my hair into a braid while I fly as it keeps it out the way and also adds loose waves for when I land.
- I drink a hella lot of water throughout the flight. To avoid excessive plastic cups I take my own reusable water bottle and ask them to fill it up for me. I try to drink a litre for every 2 hours, minimum. It seems like a lot, it is a lot, you will pee a lot, but it works.
- If the flight is super long (over 8 hours), I will most likely apply a second layer of the nourishing face mask. You can’t have too much moisture.
- Towards the end of the flight I use my flannel to clean off any remainders of the mask and then apply a nourishing serum, moisturiser and SPF. I use Zenii Hyaluronic Acid serum, Ren ClearCalm Face Moisturiser and Dr Barbara Sturm SPF Drops. I also apply another layer of lip balm, deodorant and hand cream! I might even spritz some perfume such as J’Adore Dior.
- If you want to put makeup on and pop your contact lenses in, this is the time to do so.

Bonus Question: Do I Eat Airplane Food?
In short, yes. I always request a vegan meal, as this is my dietary preference but also because it tends to be healthier, fresher and more vegetable focused than most other airplane meals. I honestly don’t worry too much about the quality of airplane food. Obviously it isn’t the best but its just a couple of meals out of your lifetime, so I roll with it. I also take a couple of snacks such as NAKD bars or homemade energy balls if it is long haul flight.
Safe travels,
