Here we go again. 2026 is the year of big adventures and bucket-list destinations, and this one feels extra special. We have poured our hearts into creating a once in a lifetime trip to the mountains of Pakistan and I still cannot believe we are making it happen. I have teamed up with a specialist local guiding company who know these landscapes better than anyone, and there is no one I would rather explore with than the people who call these mountains home.

Pakistan is not always the first place that comes to mind for hiking, but I promise you it deserves a spot right at the top of your list. Think jagged Karakoram peaks, alpine forests, glacier-fed lakes and remote mountain lodges. Imagine standing beneath Nanga Parbat, trekking to Rakaposhi Basecamp, watching sunset from Eagles Nest, wandering the colourful streets of Karimabad and sleeping under a sky packed with stars. Ever heard of Fairy Meadows? Attabad Lake? The Hussaini Suspension Bridge? If not, let me introduce you…

The Itinerary

We start our adventure in Islamabad. After airport pick up we will check into our hotel and enjoy a late lunch at Kabul Restaurant. Later we will visit Faisal Mosque and take a gentle sunset walk through the surrounding hills before returning to the hotel for dinner and an early night ahead of the journey to come.

It is an early departure for our scenic flight to Skardu, known for jaw dropping views of the Karakoram mountains. After landing we will settle in, enjoy lunch, and head out to the Cold Desert of Skardu for jeep rides across the dunes. Those feeling adventurous may choose to try paramotoring for a birds eye view. We finish the day with dinner in Skardu.

After breakfast we make our way towards Fairy Meadows. We will drive along the Karakoram Highway to Raikot Bridge before jumping into jeeps for the final stretch. From there we hike into Fairy Meadows, stopping for tea and snacks on the way. We will settle into our mountain lodge, enjoy dinner, and relax around the bonfire under the stars.

Fuelled by breakfast we set off on a hike to Nanga Parbat Basecamp. The route is challenging but incredibly rewarding, passing through forests and open hillside with glacier views throughout. After lunch on the trail we return to Fairy Meadows where dinner and a cosy evening by the fire await.

This morning we hike back down from Fairy Meadows to our jeeps and begin our journey to Karimabad. The drive is scenic and once we arrive we will have the afternoon to explore local markets, gemstones and craft shops. In the evening we will enjoy a buffet dinner at the Serena Hotel.

The morning is free to rest, swim, explore Karimabad or visit Baltit Fort. Late morning we gather for lunch before hiking to Eagles Nest. Here we will enjoy sunset views across the valley followed by a BBQ with live local music. We will spend the night at Hunza Huts and Resort.

We travel to Minapin and begin the hike towards Rakaposhi. The trail leads us to Hapakun campsite where we will set up tents and have a relaxed afternoon. Dinner will be cooked on site and we will enjoy an evening around the fire in the mountains.

Today we continue to Rakaposhi Basecamp where we will be rewarded with incredible views of the Minapin Glacier. After time at the top we descend back to Minapin and transfer to Gulmit to rest for the evening at Chilla Bassi Lodge.

A full day of adventure begins with a visit to Attabad Lake followed by a hike to Bascochi Meadows for amazing lake views. Afterwards we will stop for lunch at Yak Grill then cross the Hussaini Suspension Bridges for a thrill. If time allows we will visit the Passu Cones for photos. Later we drive back to Skardu for dinner and rest.

It is an early start as we take jeeps to the trailhead for Marsur Rock. We will hike up in the cooler morning air for spectacular views over Skardu Valley. On the way back we stop for lunch with a view then return to town for a final evening dinner together.

We fly from Skardu back to Islamabad where those with immediate connections can depart. Anyone staying longer will return to the city for a relaxed final dinner before the trip concludes.

Trip Highlight

Camping high in the mountains at Hapakun is the kind of moment you don’t forget. After a full day of trekking towards Rakaposhi, settling around camp with the group, watching the stars appear one by one, and realising you are completely surrounded by nature is pretty special. It is simple, peaceful and honestly quite magical.

Travel insurance is mandatory for all guests and needs to be provided 30 days before the trip starts. Your policy must provide cover for:

- Medical injury or sickness

- Trekking up to 4,500 meters

- Helicopter evacuation in an emergency situation (we do carry satellite SOS devices for serious emergencies)

- Repatriation to your country of residence

You must declare any pre-existing medical conditions and ensure you receive written confirmation that any pre-existing medical conditions are fully insured. We advise you to obtain travel insurance as soon as you book, which will cover unforeseeable circumstances.

Please ensure your policy explicitly covers Pakistan, including Gilgit Baltistan, Fairy Meadows, Ghulkin, Gulmit, Lahore, Islamabad, Naltar, and Hunza Valley.

We can recommend World Nomads for travel insurance, but also suggest you do your own research about different options available. A 2-week policy for Pakistan typically costs around £100, depending on age and country of residence.
